"The ""Stories About Your Town"" contest was held with the aim of discovering something new to love about the culture and nature of places throughout Japan through stories, and sharing them with Japan and other countries as we look ahead to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. KADOKAWA headed this project, which was commissioned by Cabinet Secretariat Headquarters of Japan for the Promotion of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The winning submissions in this collection were awarded a Gold Medal, Silver Medal, Bronze Medal, or Honorable Mention. The stories were fairly evaluated and chosen by a panel of 3 judges: the writer and specialist in natural history who is very famous in Japan, Hiroshi Aramata; the sports commentator and former swimmer who won an Olympic bronze medal in Sydney, Masami Tanaka; and the chief editor of the informational magazine about books and comics, Da Vinci, published by KADOKAWA, Yasuhiko Sekiguchi.
It is precisely because the short-story submissions were limited to a maximum of 2400 characters that the authors' individuality and imagination were concentrated, and the reader can feel the authors’ affection for each region. Please enjoy the many stories that allow you to encounter new things to love about the various regions of Japan. If you find a place you are interested in, please don’t hesitate to visit there when you come to Japan."
